WHAT’S NEW

transition has undergone several changes in its long history as a groundbreaking festival in vienna, but we are not yet finished! In 2019, the festival and its management took the time to re-shape its basic structure and message. the queer film festival was back for good in 2020.

the festival took place in the form of an online celebration via kino vod club in november 2020, hosted together with migay. in addition, a new visual identity has been created and was ready for its public launch!

a world full of flickering screens. moving dots... everywhere, showing everything. or don't they? our design aesthetically reduced movies to their smallest visual parts. dots. pixels. moving smoothly, forming complex patterns, worlds of imagination. a world that gives space: space for variety, space for sexuality, space for celebrating queerness, space for more culture, diversity, and life. so it’s time to claim your – and our – space in this greyscale world, and bring back color! and not only visually!

transition sees itself as a cultural docking point for queer life and culture creation throughout the year. 2021 will be a great example for this.

our FILM FESTIVAL takes place in two parts over the year. In JUNE 2021 the festival program focuses on making queerness visible in film – and connecting the queer community. NOVEMBER 2021 will sharpen our view on queer minorities.

in addition, there will be monthly film screenings in various cities throughout austria in cooperation with the local communities. we call this series TRANSITION QUEER FILM NIGHTS.

in september 2021 we will launch the TRANSITION ACADEMY, a project that is intended to enable young queer filmmakers and artists to support and promote their work in film, media and culture.
