as gushing floods of heteronormative, patriarchally driven politics try to sweep across our planet, manifesting themselves in criminalising abortion, diminishing lgbtqi* rights and countless other forms of suppression, the blanket of responsibility shroud those in opposition. but even though it at times is a heavy cloak to wear, it is also a beautiful one. it encapsulates and unites all of the diversity on the lgbtiqa+ spectrum, no matter if it is found within minorities or even in minorities within minorities.
to celebrate this tapestry of inclusivity, dialogue and openness transition international queer & minorities film festival was born in 2012 and has since become an annual event where film is used to confront, break stereotypes and engage our audience using discussions, workshops and lectures. we seek to bring new points of view regarding migration, women*, people of color, refugees, dis/ability, trans*, religion and more. we seek the stories we do not know and the perspectives of those not heard.
in the last years the festival itself has transitioned, taking in new ideas, exploring new formats and expanding the film festival, now spreading its celebration of queerness all over the year of 2021 and of course continuing into 2022. through a dual film festival - taking place both in june and november -, the transition queer film nights - monthly queer film screenings in various austrian cities in collaboration with local communities and the launch of the transition academy - an extensive workshop for young queer filmmakers and artists to support and promote their work in film, media and culture - first taking place in 2022, transition international queer & minorities film festival take a stand against those dark waters threatening us who love the complexity, colour, imagination, and power of queerness!
